dan johnson: mini-monumentals

Mixed media sculptures – September 23 to November 10, 2017

Jestful and boastful, these works of concrete, clay and steel imbue a sense of "Big" though they may not be huge; their monumentality springing both from our imagination and their suggestion of size. Charged with their own grandeur, they inhabit space in the same way as a much larger work. They are of a scale that will fit comfortably in your home or garden without taking over as would a true monumental piece.

A sense of humor and simple design are guiding principles with many of these sophisticated mini-menhir-like pieces. Enjoying a piece of sculpture can come from the idea of a little jab in the ribs as much as the formal elements of form, texture and color.
